On Tuesday June 21st Waypoint is holding a special event to inform you about the research and development that they are undertaking with a number of universities. That’s at 1:30 pm at the Oak Ridge activity centre. Then at 5:00 pm that day you are invited to the wrap-up of Artsvest program at the NSSRC. This special program has seen a number of artists and businesses come together to see how they can support each other. Stronger arts and more vibrant businesses – great for Midland.

May 9, 2013 (Midland, ON) – On March 27, Midland Town Council amended the bylaw that permits business establishments within the Town of Midland to be open on certain statutory holidays. In the best interest of tourism maintenance and development, the Town of Midland has expanded those days.
Shoppers may now find stores open on the following statutory holidays:
• Victoria Day – May 20, 2013
• Canada Day – July 1, 2013
• Labour Day – September 2, 2013
• Boxing Day – December 26, 2013
• Family Day – February 17, 2014
• Good Friday – April 18, 2014
• Thanksgiving Monday – October 13, 2014
“The Town has provided us with an opportunity to service our very important tourist clientele on days that, in the past, many of our great shops have had to close,” said Steve Maurice, proprietor of Maurice’s Valu-Mart. “It means that businesses will be able to satisfy out-of-town customers on days that they are likely to be visiting the area. It’s good for them, and it’s good for us!”

May 9, 2013 (Midland, ON) – Steve Barber, Chair of the Downtown Midland BIA, presented a cheque for $550 to Sandra Trainor Cull, Executive Director of Simcoe County Farm Fresh Marketing Association in support of their Huronia Food Trail initiative.
As part of their Agri-Culinary Tourism Development, the Huronia Food Trail is a pilot project linking locally grown products and experiences to tourists through farms, restaurants, B&Bs, resorts and attractions.
The Downtown Midland BIA sees an initiative such as this as a great way to pull hungry tourists into the downtown area. And Food Trail members, such as Andre Sanche of Ciboulette et Cie, will be in great company with The Explorers Café and The Midland Cultural Centre who are already on the trail and sitting just on the outskirts of the BIA area.
“We joined the Huronia Food Trail because we thought it was not only a great way to connect with our producers, but also a way for all of our guests to be able to connect with them directly too!” said Sanche.
“We’re very excited to include businesses in Midland, Penetanguishene, Tay and Tiny Townships,” said Trainor. “Thanks to community partners like the Downtown Midland BIA in assisting us, we can make it happen! The Huronia Food Trail will be launching very shortly, watch for more details!”

WRITING CONTEST IS NOW ON -- get your stories ready and submit to The Midland Mirror by May 23, then get ready to vote for the best story. Watch in the May 9 edition of The Mirror for all the details. YOUR Dad (or Dad-figure) could win a spot as a buttertart tasting judge.
The festival is Father’s Day weekend. Everybody has a male figure in their life who is buttertart crazy. The Mirror is looking for stories about the lengths that some men have gone to get that last buttertart. The writing contest, hosted by The Mirror, will require a child or youth write a 100-word story about why their father, grandfather, uncle, stepfather or male guardian deserves to be a Buttertart Judge. Written entries are to be sent to The Mirror (please put "buttertart festival" in the subject line) and readers will be asked to vote on their favourite stories. The winner will join the panel of judges to taste and score the buttertarts that are entered into the Buttertart Baking Contest on June 15 starting at noon at the Midland Cultural Centre. Judges will need to be available from noon until 3:30pm

We've build our reputation on carrying Quality & Canadian Made Furniture, and we have made such great connections with the Mennonites we deal with, we were not ready to let that go!
Come check out our catalogues and wood samples! Solid wood is not always more money! I was pricing some of the books thinking: "This Queen size solid Pine bed is actually less money then one from Ashley Furniture." I think a lot of people thinking its priced high, when it can possibly be less or just a little more for something that is better quality, and support our local Mennonites. It is something that lasts a life time, and can be sanded down and re-finished!
